20) This BLOG n Its Authors

The reasons to start this blog was briefly mentioned in the opening paragraph on the home page, basically it serves as a reminder of our roots,  to enlighten the next generations of our heritage and at the same time to fulfil the wish of an aging father to maintain contact with family members.  During a gathering of 2 generations of aged and aging parents, many were asking  strange questions like how many cousins did we have, why are some of the cousins older than the uncles?  Do we still have living relatives in China ?  And it was embarrassing to find out that almost half my cousins do not know me and vice-versa.

But at the same time,  it also dawned on me that we too have the responsibility to pass down this information to the next generation and the generations after, to answer the “who, what, when, where, why and how”  of our fore-fathers who first set foot in Singapore.  I have to admit it was not until when I was in my late 30s that I took an interest in knowing when and who from our ancestry  first came to Singapore and why.

I am sure some generations later, someone would have the same inquisitive mind and I hope that this blog would satisfy his or her curiosity.  Hence , this Blog was initiated before I too become an ancestor of my descendents.

Several platforms & media were considered to keep this unique record of our family-tree & family history, which must allow appending by later generations. Below is a listing of the Pros & Cons of the different platforms considered,... of which BLOGing is found to be the obvious choice.

I have chosen "blogspot.com"  because "Google" owns them (...Yes, The "Google" ) and I have confident  they will be around for sometime.

As the internet and softwares evolve so quickly, there is a possibility that softcopies of  our materials no longer compatible with softwares 20 or 30 years later.

Therefore,  it would be helpful if descendents or relatives of the KWAN family would be interested to become guardians of this blog, to preserve the archives and any original records to pass them down to the next generations, and of course to also  continue updating the blog. The suitable persons  should preferably be at least in their 30s,  have an interest in his/her family history, be proficient in IT  and of course to have a flair in writing engaging blogs.
